We are looking for volunteers to help with the parade marshal duties. The parade will go from the Cyclorama Building in the South End to Upham’s Corner in Dorchester. Parade marshals would be required to attend a (1 hour) training session before the start of the parade on 9/14/19 at (9 AM).
Assist in keeping the procession moving as a cohesive unit
Monitor the speed of walking participants. Encourage the “stragglers”
Keep an eye out for issues - people who are too tired, people who are dehydrated
Signal to command if there are any emergencies
Assist in crossing the intersections
Encourage the parade walkers to cross the intersection in an orderly manner to minimize the impact on drivers
Signal when to stop and go based on police detail instructions
Assist the production team in performer changeover at Dudley Square
The new set of performers should be lined up on parade route and waiting to start walking once the flatbeds reach the area
Assist the performers who just finished walking. We will have water on the flatbeds to pass out
Act as an ambassador to the general public
Answer the public’s questions such as “What in the world is happening here?”
Triage people who may want to join. If there is a problematic entry such as an overly inebriated person that may cause issues, signal to police
